Michigan Association of Township Supervisors
is an independent nonprofit organization of and for Township Supervisors which provides high quality in-depth education and facilitates networking on contemporary township issues.
Encouraging Stronger Leadership in Rural Michigan since 1998.

As your new president I hope to bring forth the high quality of leadership that you are accustomed to now. Dwayne’s shoes will be hard to fill and I thank him for all of his help before and after my term as president started.
MATS elections, held at the annual meeting in mid-April, brought in many new faces and fresh ideas. Please take a look at the About MATS page on our website to learn more about the current board members, and to find our contact information. Every board member is committed to responding to your suggestions and concerns as we strive to make this a number one organization.
This year, several veteran board members chose to not run for re-election. I thank them for their many years of service. The retiring board members are Marie Twite, Alpena Township, who served as director of District 4; Don Studaven, Blue Lake Township, who served as director of District 5; Sid Grinnell, Perry Township, who served as vice president, and Dwayne Parker, who served as president for the past three years. Both Sid and Dwayne now join the Advisory Council, which is made up of past presidents and vice presidents.
As we become oriented to our new roles, we will be concentrating on initiatives to increase membership and attendance at our conferences.
As those of you who’ve attended our education events know, MATS presents education and information sessions that are member-driven with topics that township supervisors request. Knowing that our audiences are genuinely interested in the subject helps us to attract the best speakers. In fact, most presenters at MATS conferences tell us that township supervisors are the most responsive and inquisitive audience they ever have!
With all this in mind, if there’s a topic you would like to learn more about please contact me.
