As your new president I hope to bring forth the high quality of leadership that you are accustomed to now.  Dwayne’s shoes will be hard to fill and I thank him for all of his help before and after my term as president started.
MATS elections, held at the annual meeting in mid-April, brought in many new faces and fresh ideas. Please take a look at the About MATS page on our website to learn more about the current board members, and to find our contact information. Every board member is committed to responding to   your suggestions and concerns as we strive to make this a number one organization.
This year, several veteran board members chose to not run for re-election.  I thank them for their many years of service. The retiring board members are Marie Twite, Alpena Township,  who served as director of District 4; Don Studaven, Blue Lake Township, who served as director of District 5; Sid Grinnell, Perry Township, who served as vice president, and Dwayne Parker, who served as president for the past three years. Both Sid and Dwayne now join the Advisory Council, which is made up of past presidents and vice presidents.
As we become oriented to our new roles, we will be concentrating on initiatives to increase membership and attendance at our conferences.
As those of you who’ve attended our education events know, MATS presents education and information sessions that are member-driven with topics that township supervisors request. Knowing that our audiences are genuinely interested in the subject helps us to attract the best speakers. In fact, most presenters at MATS conferences tell us that township supervisors are the most responsive and inquisitive audience they ever have!
With all this in mind, if there’s a topic you would like to learn more about please contact me.
I hope to see you at the Fall 2011 conference, to be held October 19-21 in Kalamazoo.

HOT Topics for the Spring 2012 Education Conference -
Let MATS know what you want to see on the program! . . .
We just completed the 2011 Fall Education Conference, which was held October 19-21 in Kalamazoo. From the evaluations we've read, the conference was a huge success, and everyone learned a lot. We hope you'll make every effort to join us for the Spring 2012 conference coming up April 25-27, 2012 in beautiful downtown Traverse City. Bring your spouse along for a Spring getaway. The hotel is in the heart of downtown, a comfortable walking distance to hundreds of quaint shops, restaurants and the beautiful Traverse Bay lakeshore. You won't want to miss this one! To make it the best it can be, please
complete the brief program survey at
the right. Simply type your ideas for
program sessions in the box and click
"Email to MATS". Your suggestions will
go to the MATS president for consider-
ation as we plan the program.

Supervisors who've attended a MATS
conference will all tell you that the
sessions are exactly what they re-
quested. MATS strives to make sure
all conference programs are "member-
driven" to assure that they will meet your
needs for current information about your
every-day duties.

Also, be aware that there will not be a
Fall Education Conference in 2012.
The MATS fall conference is always the
end of October or early November, right
at the same time as township elections.
Of course, the most important place for
the township supervisor during election
week is right at home, staying con-
nected and visible with constituents.

Type your program suggestions for the Spring 2012 Education Conference in the box below and then click "Email to MATS" to share your ideas with the MATS board.
